"GASSMAN SR." DIVISION QUARTER FINALS
BEST OF THREE GAME SERIES

  1. ~ STARBOARD SIDE VS. PHILLY SOX TURSDAY JULY 31, 8:15PM

Starboard Side got off to a fast start with four runs in the top of the second inning. Then the sky fell in and the Sox exploded for nineteen unanswered runs. Sox left fielder Tony Baranackie went four for four. Another Sox player Shortstop Chris Nottis hit a grand slam home run. Final score 19 to 4.

  2. ~ PHILLY SOX VS. STARBOARD SIDE WEDNESDAY AUGUST 1, 7:00PM

Starboard Side bounces back from humiliating loss. As pitcher Gannon holds the Sox to just two runs. In a 6 to 2 win. Maybe never in playoff league history has a team after losing a game by such a lopsided score come back to play as good as Starboard Side did in this one. In winning this game they tie up the series at 1 & 1 and will play the Sox in the third and deciding game on Friday.

  3. ~ STARBOARD SIDE VS. PHILLY SOX ~ FRIDAY AUGUST 3, 7:30PM

After losing their first game of the series by a big lopsided score of 19 to 4. Starboard Side came back to win the next two games allowing the Sox just three total runs in these games . This ended the hopes of the Philly Sox to move onto the Semi finals in their first season. The score was tied at 1 to 1 in the top of the seventh inning when with two outs Starboard Side's shortstop Rocky Harr lined a singled up the middle to drive in what was to be the winning run. Final score 2 to 1. But the game did not end yet not until Starboard Side's outfielder A.J. Thomson caught a line drive hit right at him. Starboard Side moves onto the Semi's. The Sox go home until next season.

STARBOARD SIDE WINS SERIES 2 TO 1

"MOE" DIVISION SEMI FILALS
BEST OF THREE GAME SERIES

  1. ~ REGAN'S VS ANTHONY'S #2 MONDAY AUGUST 6, 7:00PM

Regan's was as hot as the weather! Banging out two early home runs. Regan's held a big lead of 8 to 1. Until Anthony's picked up three runs on a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. And that was all of the scoring for the night. Final score Regan's 8 Anthony's 4.

  2. ANTHONY'S #2 VS. REGAN'S TUESDAY AUGUST 7, 8:15PM

Anthony's #2 came back just like a good team should. With bats on fire they came to play. John Wood had a big night with his bat a home run and triple and his arm. Marc Alicea had the essential pitches when he needed them and had Regan's poping up on to many at bats. Anthony's 12 Regan's 8.

  3. REGAN'S VS ANTHONY'S #2 THURSDAY AUGUST 9, 7:30PM

In a game you can call perfectly played Anthony's #2 showed why they won the championship of this league a year ago and made a statement on this night that they intend to keep that title again this year. Anthony's put on a very powerful display of hitting, pitching and played a spectacular game of defense all night long. But it was Anthony's pitcher Bobby Mc Cormick that held Regan's runless until their last at bats in the top of the seventh inning when they scored a run. This was the same pitcher that lost the first game of this series to Regan's 8 to 4. But he came back with his best game of the season when it counted. Its for sure that it has been sometime since a Regan's team lost such a onesided game in any league! Final score Anthony's 14 Regan's 1.

In another playoff note. It has been along time if ever that this has happened. Both teams that will meet in the final championship round had the same record at the end of the season 17 wins. So it was decided to flip a coin to see who would be the home team. The flip was taken with Preliminary calling tails, and they won the flip and will be home team for the first game on Monday.

    ANTHONY'S #2 WIN SERIES 3 TO 2

"GASSMAN SR." DIVISION SEMI FINALS
BEST OF THREE GAME SERIES

  1. ~ STARBOARD SIDE VS. PRELIMINARY MONDAY AUGUST 6, 8:15PM

In a game very smilar to the opening Starboard Side Vs The Sox game of 19 to 4. Preliminary totally took the game a part and blowed Starboard Side off of the field by a score of 18 to 7. Preliminary got good pitching and hitting in this very big game. But Don't let up as we know this team don't go easy.

  2. PRELIMINARY VS. STARBOARD SIDE TUESDAY AUGUST 7, 7:00PM

Preliminary just had to much pitching when John Borrelli returned after a few weeks off with a broken hand. John had a one hitter going until the sixth inning with a 5 to 0 lead. But Starboard Side still had alot of fight left in them and gave all they had left and scored three runs but fell short and Preliminary won the game 5 to 3 and move onto the Championship round.

PRELIMINARY WINS SERIES 2 TO 0

THE 2001 CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
BEST OF FIVE GAMES SERIES
PRELIMINARY VS. ANTHONY'S #2

  1. ANTHONY'S #2 VS. PRELIMINARY Monday August 13, 2001 ~ 7:30pm

With a score of one to one and the bottom of the second inning Greg Cunningham hit a home run over the left center field fence that put Anthony's ahead. From that point on the pitching took center stage. The score stayed that way until with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning Anthony's pitcher Bob Mc Cormick ran out of gas and thinking of his team first ask to come out. Anthony's other pitcher Marc Alicia was brought into the game. Thats when Anthony's infield committed two errors and before you know it the score is four to two Preliminary. Now its the top of the seventh inning with Preliminary's John Borrelli still pitching brilliantly now has Anthony runners at first and second base and one out. He gets Ryan Andrews to fly out to left for the second out then gets Bobby Markley to ground to third for a force out that ends the game. So Preliminary takes the first game by the score of 4 to 2.

  2. PRELIMINARY VS. ANTHONY'S #2 Tuesday August 14, 2001 ~ 7:30pm

In game one it was Preliminary's pitching that carried them all night to a win. But in game two it was what got them in trouble in the very first inning. Preliminary's Starting pitcher Vince Menello walked the first three Anthony's batters then third baseman Neil Spence hit a ball off of the left field fence that cleared the bases. It was in the bottom of the fourth inning with Anthony's leading four to three when Bobby Markley hit a home run to make the score five to three. Anthony's pitcher Marc Alicea had the right pitches the rest of the game to get Anthony's a 6 to 3 win. This evens up the series at one game each. A littel spat (hollering back and fourth by a few players at each other) Started between the teams after the hand shake when both teams were back on their side lines. But nothing came of it. See you Thursday.

  3. ANTHONY'S #2 VS. PRELIMINARY Thursday August 16, 2001 ~ 7:30pm

They have been saying for years that good pitching can stop good hitting anytime. A old Philadelphia A's manager Connie Mack even said pitching is 90% of the game. Well on a night where both teams were tied at one win each. Pitching was the name of the game. It was Preliminary's John Borrelli back starting his second game in this series and facing Anthony's pitcher Bobby Mc Cormick. The game started almost like the first game of this series Anthony's #2 got off to a fast start scoring a quick run in the top of the first inning to go up 1 to 0. Preliminary came back in the third to tie the score at one. The pitching kept both teams at bay until the top of the sixth inning when Anthony's shortstop Gil Newton Jr. led off the inning with a double but Borrelli puts down the next three batters in order. In the bottom of the sixth Preliminary gets a runner catcher Joe Ristine on base and with one out outfielder Danny Hughes hits a line drive into right field where Anthony's Ryan Andrews fires a great throw to third but the ball takes a bad bounce and goes off of third baseman Neil Spence's leg and goes down the left field line allowing Ristine to score all the way from first. Mc Cormick shut the door after that. Now its top of the seventh inning Borrelli gets the first Anthony batter to pop up. With one out Neil Spence comes to bat and hits a line drive right over third base Preliminary's left fielder jumpes on the ball like a cat and gets the ball back into the in field to hold Spence to a single. The next two Anthony hitters fly out to center and ground out third to first to end a superb game. Final score Preliminary 2 Anthonys 1 ~ SERIES Preliminary 2 to 1.

    "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS"

  4. PRELIMINARY VS. ANTHONY'S #2 Friday August 17, 2001 ~ 7:30pm

It was 9:02pm Friday Night August 17, 2001. And after eight years in the league The Preliminary Bar could finally call themselfs Champions of the Rotan league. It was game four and Anthony's #2 started off this game just about like their three other games with Preliminary in this series. They get two quick runs in the first inning on a home run by shortstop Gil Newton Jr. Preliminary comes back to tie the game in the third inning. Then in the fourth Anthony's Ralph Ulmer drives in two very big runs to put Anthony's back on top by the score of four to two. That was all of the scoring until the top of the sixth when Preliminary's bats caught fire as they banged out six hits and scored four runs on these hits making the score six to four Preliminary. At this point Preliminary's Coach Pete Boyer puts in his ace pitcher John Borrelli you see Borrelli has allowed Anthony's just three runs in his first two wins (14 innings) in this series. John again pitches his magic over Anthony's and shuts the door on them in the last two innings giving up no runs to bring the first ever league Championship to The Preliminary Bar with a 6 to 4 win. This league congratulations our new league 2001 Champions. And thanks these two outstanding teams for an absolutely fabulous championship series. You showed everyone why this league is the best there is in the City Of Philadelphia. With out a doubt the 2002 season will even be better. See you next Spring.

We do apologize to John Borrelli for misspelling his name wrong all season long on the website. We asked at the beginning of the season when we put the team rosters on the site. If we had any misspelled names to let us know a.s.a.p.. No one said anything to us until August 26, 2001.
